Solid Drop in Turkey HatcheryWASHINGTON - Aug 13/04 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity declined in the United States as of August 1, with a steep drop in the number of eggs in incubators, according to the latest report from the USDA. Turkey eggs in incubators on August 1, 2004, in the United States totaled 30.0 million, down 8% from August 1 a year ago. Eggs in incubators were 3% below the July 2004 total of 31.0 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 7% at 4,738,000 eggs, West North Central down 2% at 11,497,000, North and South Atlantic down 14% at 8,507,000, South Central up 2% at 2,243,000, and West down 18% at 3,035,000 eggs in incubators. The 25.3 million poults placed during July 2004 in the United States were down slightly from the number placed during the same month a year ago.
