Major Jump in U.S. Prunes and PlumsWASHINGTON - Aug 12/04 - SNS -- Production of plums and prunes in Idaho, Michigan, Oregon, and Washington is forecast at 24,500 tons, up 50% from last year and 57% above 2002, according to the USDA's latest crop estimates. The Oregon forecast, at 14,000 tons, is more than double the weather reduced crop in 2003 and 75% above 2002. An early, warm spring, combined with excellent weather conditions during bloom, contributed to the large crop. Growing conditions have been excellent throughout the Willamette Valley.
