Mexico's Planting Seed Purchases RiseMEXICO CITY - Jul 9/04 - SNS -- The value of planting seeds imported by Mexico in 2003 rose sharply, advancing from U.S. $354 million to $442 million due to increased areas planted to vegetables that were destined for the export market, especially in the United States. According to the U.S. agricultural attache here, the United States captured 46% of the market, exporting $204 million worth of seeds to Mexico. The value of seed exports from Mexico decreased 6% from the previous year to $95 million. Its 2003 share of Mexican seed imports at 8% for field crop seeds, 74% for grass seeds, 27% for leguminous seeds, 77% for other forage seeds, 77% for other seeds and 98% for other vegetable seeds.
